Inside this maze
The opening corridor takes 28 moves before offering its first branch. It brings you to column 13 on the top row, so the early bends can be followed without guessing. After that introduction, the answer visits 40 junctions on its way across the 28-by-28 board. Its 448 passage moves include 287 corners; the longest run without changing direction is 7 moves. The quiet opening is not representative of how many choices remain.
This layout works well for separating two kinds of mistakes: crossing a wall while tracing, and choosing a legal passage that later proves wrong. A problem before the first fork is a tracing issue, since there has not yet been a branch to choose. Later, use junction marks to keep track of deliberate choices. When checking a finished sheet, stop at the lower-right marker even if other passages remain open nearby; a maze's destination need not be a sealed end cell.
